Art in the Docks to unleash the creative potential of Newham’s children and young people

Art in the Docks is delighted to be recognised as a recipient of Newham Council’s Enrichment fund.

The Enrichment Offer supports the provision of a wide variety of cultural opportunities to Newham’s children and young people, enabling them to participate in the borough’s vibrant and diverse creative and cultural opportunities. It enables children and young people to discover and develop their individual talents, pursue excellence, seize opportunities, and have fun growing up in Newham.

Christopher Mike, Director of Art in the Docks said:

Newham Council’s support will enable Art in the Docks to deliver a creative programme, with a focus on participation, progression, and sustainability. This recognition of the integral role our organisation plays in the borough, coupled with our ambition for the community will help bring our vision for ‘Culture Matters’ to life in Newham.”

Michael Muraszczuk, Enrichment and Education Project Officer for Newham Council said:

One of the successful grant recipients is Art in the Docks, a professional artist-led social enterprise committed to making art and culture accessible to people who otherwise feel excluded, reducing barriers to participation and adding to a sense of inclusiveness.

The Council is funding its ‘Culture Matters’ programme because of its ambitious proposals to engage a vast number of children, young people and adults into an exciting and comprehensive programme of events designed to unleash creative potential and forge better understanding and partnerships through the creative economy in Newham. This culminates in a celebration event in late March, which will see artwork created through the duration of the programme displayed in a community art exhibition located at the Art in the Docks studios in the Royal Docks. We look forward to seeing their exciting vision come to life and provide real opportunities for Newham’s young people and residents to get involved.”

Our new programme of events is already underway with the first creative workshops taking place at the beginning of January. To keep updated with all of our upcoming workshops and activites, click here.
