Stimulating Economic Activity Through Creativity
Art in the Docks continues to pioneer innovative ways to use creativity to boost economic activity and create new job opportunities.
Through recent initiatives, we have focused on providing people with monetisable creative skills, giving them the prospect of becoming more economically active and improving family income. Recognising that not everyone is able to work full-time, these training courses are designed to build both practical skills and personal confidence.
Participants are encouraged to explore flexible work-from-home opportunities that fit around their lifestyle and responsibilities, or health needs.
In partnership with GLA-backed One Newham Learning Services (ONLS), we recently delivered a creative training programme aimed at local residents.
Participants were introduced to simple creative skills such as hand stitching to make alterations to clothing and learned to how to add surface embellishments.
Impact
We collected anonymous feedback via Google Forms to understand the impact of this initiative.
Here's what participants had to say:
“I met new people, learned something new. Overall the atmosphere was great. I really enjoyed the course. ”
“I think everyone should know the basic stitches, This was a great opportunity to learn something new.”
This workshop demonstrated that creativity is not only a means of self-expression, but also a significant driver of economic and personal growth. Participant feedback indicated that attendees developed skills with clear potential for future income generation, while also building increased confidence in their creative abilities.
Going forward, we are committed to further expanding access to these opportunities, empowering individuals to realise the economic and personal benefits of creative engagement.
