Art in the Docks @ University of East London

On Saturday 22nd November, Art in the Docks supported multiple concurrent UEL Open Day events at all three campuses. We delivered multiple creative workshops and activities, engaging visiting prospective students and members of the local communities.

University of East London (UEL) Open Day events give prospective students and their families an insider look, helping them decide if it's the right fit for them. It offers a chance to meet and talk with current students, lecturers, and support staff about academic life, student services, and the application process.

Festive themed workshops were led by Art in the Docks creative professionals, supported by a mix of local community volunteers and UEL students.

We particularly want young people from the east London boroughs to be familiar with the inside of a university, normalising the idea that these are places that are relevant and accessible to them. If creative workshops can lead to better life outcomes, we should all strive to do more.

“The community interactive activities delivered for our Open Day on 22 November 2025 were exceptional. The creativity, organisation, and engagement you brought to Art in the Docks truly elevated the experience for our visitors. We were especially pleased to see such a strong turnout despite the wet, rainy weather, and it was a real bonus to have our local MP, James Asser, attend and get involved in the activities. We received fantastic feedback from families, prospective students, and staff alike. Thank you for helping make the event such a success.”

-Head of Events Management, UEL

“I was happy to attend UEL’s Undergraduate and Postgraduate Open Day, to meet the teams there and to speak with future students. One of the best things about UEL is how it is a part of our community and doesn’t feel like a separate distant institution. The Health Advice Centre and their collaboration with Art in the Docks are brilliant examples of this work to make UEL familiar and accessible to local people.”

-James Asser, MP
