CREATIVITY

ACCOUNTABILITY

Big Ideas, Real Impact

Underpinned by trust, consistency, and authentic engagement, Art in the Docks delivers long-term, community-led change.

Art in the Docks delivers people-led, place-based programmes that respond directly to the needs and priorities of Newham communities. Local residents actively shape activity through ongoing engagement, ensuring provision remains relevant, inclusive, and grounded in lived experience.

Cultural programmes strengthen community connections by creating regular, welcoming spaces where people of all ages come together, reducing isolation and building lasting relationships through shared creative activity.

We support improved health and wellbeing through preventative, low-pressure creative sessions that promote confidence, social connection, and emotional resilience, particularly for residents experiencing isolation or health inequalities.

For children and young people, we build confidence, communication and creative skills, contributing to early-stage employability and broadening access to future opportunities within the creative economy. We do this together with schools and academic institutions.

Environmental sustainability is embedded through creative reuse, outdoor engagement, and community-led placemaking, encouraging positive behaviours and local stewardship.

How Art Helps

  • Externalizes Emotions

Making or viewing art puts feelings into a tangible form, which can reduce emotional intensity and make thoughts easier to process.

  • Builds agency

Completing artistic tasks, however small, creates a sense of accomplishment and competence.

  • Strengthens social connection

Shared creative activities foster empathy and belonging, countering isolation.

  • Offers nonverbal expression

For experiences that are hard to name, art provides alternative modes of communication.
